How long does it take to build a swimming pool?
The construction timeline depends on the type and complexity of the pool. A straightforward liner or fibreglass pool can take 4-8 weeks, while a custom concrete pool may take 12-16 weeks from the start of excavation to completion. We will provide a detailed project schedule with every quote. 

Do I need planning permission for a swimming pool?
In many cases, an outdoor swimming pool is considered a ‘permitted development’ and does not require planning permission. However, restrictions can apply depending on your property’s location (e.g., if it’s a listed building or in a Conservation Area) and the pool’s size. We strongly advise checking with your local planning authority, and we can offer guidance on this process.

What’s the difference between an in-ground and above-ground pool?

Can I customise the shape and size of my pool?
Absolutely! Customisation is one of the key benefits of a bespoke pool. With concrete pools, you have virtually unlimited freedom in terms of shape, size, and depth. Liner and fibreglass pools also offer a wide range of standard and customisable options. 

What materials do you use for pool construction?
We use only high-quality, durable materials designed for longevity. This includes reinforced concrete for bespoke builds, high-grade vinyl for liner pools, and premium composite fibreglass for our one-piece models. 

Do you offer design consultations or site surveys?

How do I choose the right location for my pool?
The best location for a pool is typically a spot that gets plenty of sunshine, is sheltered from the wind, and is visible from the house. We also consider factors like proximity to trees (to minimise leaf debris), underground services, and ease of access during our site survey. 

 

Maintenance & Servicing 

How often should a swimming pool be cleaned?
We recommend weekly cleaning during the swimming season. This includes skimming the surface, brushing the walls, vacuuming the floor, and checking the water chemistry. Regular maintenance keeps your pool safe, clear, and inviting. 

What’s included in your maintenance service?
Our comprehensive maintenance service includes water testing and chemical balancing, cleaning skimmer and pump baskets, backwashing the filter, vacuuming the pool, and a visual inspection of all equipment. We offer flexible plans tailored to your needs. 

Do you offer one-off servicing or only regular contracts?
We offer both! You can book a one-off service for a specific issue or a pre-season check, or sign up for one of our regular maintenance contracts for peace of mind all year round. 

How do I keep my pool water balanced?
Keeping your pool water balanced involves regularly testing and adjusting the levels of pH, alkalinity, and sanitiser (e.g., chlorine). This prevents algae growth, ensures bather comfort, and protects your pool equipment. We provide full training upon handover and our maintenance packages can handle this for you. 

Can I do pool maintenance myself?
Yes, many pool owners choose to manage their own maintenance. We provide all the necessary training and can supply you with the right chemicals and equipment. However, many clients prefer the convenience and expertise of our professional servicing. 

 

Equipment & Features 

What type of filtration system is best?
The most common and effective filtration systems are sand filters and cartridge filters. Sand filters are durable and low-maintenance, while cartridge filters offer finer filtration. We will recommend the best system based on your pool’s size and your specific needs. 

Do I need a pool heater in the UK?
To get the most use out of your pool in the UK climate, a heater is highly recommended. Air source heat pumps are the most popular and energy-efficient option, allowing you to maintain a comfortable swimming temperature from spring through to autumn. 

Are pool covers necessary?
Yes, we consider a pool cover essential. It helps to retain heat (reducing energy costs), minimises water evaporation, keeps debris out of the pool, and reduces chemical consumption. Safety covers also provide an important barrier to prevent accidental access. 

Can you install lighting, water features or swim jets?
Of course! We offer a wide range of optional features to enhance your pool. LED lighting can transform your pool at night, water features add a touch of elegance, and swim jets create a current for you to swim against, perfect for exercise in smaller pools. 

What is a pool automation system?

Do you repair leaks or damaged tiles?

Can you renovate or modernise older pools?
Absolutely. We specialise in pool renovations. This can range from a simple liner replacement to a complete modernisation, including new tiling, coping, and upgrading equipment to the latest energy-efficient models. 

How do I know if my pool needs refurbishing?
Signs that your pool may need a refurbishment include frequent leaks, cracked or missing tiles, a faded or torn liner, outdated equipment, or if it simply looks tired and uninviting. A renovation can breathe new life into your pool. 

 

Hot Tubs & Spas 

Do you supply and install hot tubs or spas?
Yes, in addition to swimming pools, we supply and install a curated selection of high-quality hot tubs and spas from leading manufacturers. 

What’s the difference between a spa and a hot tub?
The terms are often used interchangeably. ‘Spa’ can sometimes refer to an in-ground installation connected to a swimming pool, while ‘hot tub’ typically refers to a self-contained, portable unit. We can advise on the best option for you. 

How often should a hot tub be cleaned?
We recommend draining and cleaning a hot tub every 3-4 months, depending on usage. Filters should be cleaned more frequently, typically every few weeks. 

 

Seasonal Care 

How do I open my pool for summer?
Opening your pool for summer involves removing and cleaning the winter cover, raising the water level, recommissioning the filtration system, and balancing the water chemistry. Our summer opening service can take care of all this for you. 

How do I winterise my pool properly?
Winterising involves lowering the water level, treating the water with winter chemicals, draining the equipment to prevent freeze damage, and fitting a secure winter cover. Proper winterisation is crucial to protect your pool during the colder months. 

Can you help with seasonal maintenance?
Yes, we offer dedicated pool opening and closing services to ensure your pool is properly prepared for the swimming season and safely shut down for winter. 

 

Water Chemistry & Safety 

What chemicals are needed for pool water?
The primary chemicals needed are a sanitiser (like chlorine or bromine) to kill bacteria, pH adjusters (pH plus and minus) to keep the water balanced, and an algaecide to prevent algae growth. 

Is chlorine the only option for sanitising?
While chlorine is the most common and effective sanitiser, it’s not the only option. We also offer alternative systems like saltwater chlorinators (which generate chlorine from salt) and UV systems, which can reduce the amount of chlorine needed. 

How do I keep my pool safe for children and pets?
Safety is paramount. We strongly recommend a combination of safety measures, including installing a safety fence with a self-latching gate around the pool area, using a certified safety cover, and having alarms on doors leading to the pool.
